This work is a dedication piece celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Hip-Hop.  

The artwork is an abstract portrait of a person, man or woman, wearing a variation of the iconic Kangol bucket hat.  The artwork began as an attempt to paint a grayscale reference to a photographed image of a Black woman model.  I was not satisfied with the initial resulting composition, so I continued to experiment with perfecting such features as the nose, mouth and eyes.  Color here is used to emphasize the androgenous quality of the subject which to me, speaks to the influence(s) of Hip-Hop culture.
