Person., 2023

Image
Acrylic on canvas. 20 in. x 20 in. "Person., 2023" is a commentary addressing diversity, inclusivity and equanimity among people.   The painting shows a front facing profile of a person.  The colors used to define the facial features are intended to suggest multicultural identity.  The brownish background is used to define my personal racial / ethnic identity as a brown skinned person.  The word "BLACK" located at the bottom left quadrant of the work, is nearly invisible to express discontent with day-to-day realities associated with living while Black.  It also signifies my identity as a Black artist.

A Window., 2023

Image
Acrylic and white pastel on canvas 40 in. x 40 in.  This personal work is an abstract self portrait.  The composition represents coming to terms with inevitable mortality in a world of chaos / uncertainty, but also acknowledging hope within that context. The use of white pastel represents "chalk" outlining commonly found / stereotypically acknowledged as part and parcel of crime scene investigations.  You can also see a semi-wilted flower held in a show of peace.  Hope is signified by colors combined to show the horizon from a sunset / sunrise.  Also, missing from the photographed image you see here but included in the piece which is currently on display, is a mark added to the piece to emphasize urgency associated with mortality.  Sold.
